How do I know which ELICOS level I will be in?
At the Orientation all new students take the ELICOS Placement Test. From your results you will be placed in the appropriate level class.
How long will I be in each level?
Students are usually in each level for 10 weeks.
Can I take an IELTS Preparation course?
Once students are in Developing English 4 and above they can choose IELTS electives (afternoon classes). Students can study 4 afternoons per week of IELTS preparation if they wish.
Do I need to attend Orientation?
Yes
What do I need to take to Orientation?
Your passport and one passport sized photograph. If you have already been studying in Australia please bring your Health Insurance details.
How many hours a week will I be studying each week?
The ELICOS program is 20.5 hours per week in class from Monday to Friday.
Do I need to buy any books for ELICOS?
You will need a dictionary which is available from the Curtin University Bookshop. Details will be provided by the class teacher.
How many students are there in each class?
There are no more than 18 students per class.
Where are ELICOS students from?
They are mostly from Asian countries.
Do I have access to computers?
You have an email address and access to the internet as well as other services. An IT representative provides details to students at Orientation.
Can I study ELICOS on a tourist visa?
Yes, you can study 5 or 10 weeks at Curtin University of Technology on a tourist visa if your visa has been granted outside Australia.
Can I change from a tourist visa to a student visa in Australia?
If you are from an Assessment Level 1 country you can apply for your first student visa in Australia. Other Assessment Levels may be approved but only in exceptional circumstances. Please refer to the Department of Immigration & Multicultural & Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA) at: www.immi.gov.au
Can I extend my student visa in Australia?
Yes you can extend your student visa as long has it does not have a ���No Further Stay��� condition. Please refer to the Department of Immigration & Multicultural & Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA) at www.immi.gov.au
