Available in Western Australia at Curtin University, the IELTS is to assess candidates who wish to study or work where English is used as the language of communication.

There are two modules: In most cases General test for work and immigration purposes, Academic test for further study and professional registration. The Listening and Speaking are the same for both modules; the Reading and Writing are different.

What is the test format?
It has four parts, all of which are taken in one day.

Listening
Candidates listen to cd extracts and answer forty questions. Total time is 40 minutes.

Reading
There are three passages with a total of 40 questions to be answered in one hour.

Writing
The candidates will be given two writing tasks to be completed in one hour.

Speaking
An interview of approximately 13 minutes completes the test.

How is IELTS marked?
The test is marked according to Bands of ability; there is no pass or fail. Results are posted out within 13 days after the test.
